Strikes suspended

-

Lecturers in Paisley have suspended planned strikes in a row over jobs as they get a step closer to reaching an agreement with Colleges Scotland.

The suspension of upcoming strikes today and tomorrow comes after previous strike action by EIS/FELA over claims their employers planned to replace them with unqualified and lower paid instructor posts. Colleges Scotland denied this is the case.

Staff said the industrial action was done with a “heavy heart” due to the impact the pandemic has had on staff and students.

However, C o l l e g e s Scotland announced yesterday upcoming strike action would no longer go ahead as “good progress” was made between both parties.

A spokesperson said: “Following lengthy and productive discussions today, good progress was made and a consensus position reached which both sides are taking to their respective memberships. As a result of the position reached, the strike action planned for April 27 and 28, 2021 has been suspended.

“The suspension is good news for students and staff.”
