Bank staff prevented con

An elderly Paisley couple were approached at their home by two males who had no ID or company name.

The couple had not asked for anyone to attend their home.

The two men told them that they required work to be carried out on their roof and went on to explain that the work would cost £2,600.

The couple were surprised by the arrival of the two men but thought that they were genuine.

The couple suggested that they could pay for the work by cheque, however the two men stated that they could only accept cash.

The men told them that they could carry out the work for £2,000 if the couple were to pay in cash.

The men said they would wait at the couple’s home while they went to their bank to withdraw some cash.

The couple went to the bank where, thankfully, a vigilant member of staff became concerned about the couple and contacted the police believing that they were the victims of a bogus caller.

Police officers went to the bank and met with staff and the couple.

The police returned to the couple address with them and the two men had already left.

They never returned. Thankfully on this occasion bank staff were concerned for the couple help to prevent them from losing any money.
