Saints out for revenge after League Cup defeat
Saints head back to Hampden looking to put the Betfred Cup semi-final defeat behind them.
When McCarthy put the Buddies through to the semi-final with an injury time winner against Rangers, they thought they had a decent chance of making the final against Livingston, despite the Lions’unbeaten run of form under Davie Martindale at the time.
When Saints got to the national stadium that day they looked tentative and nervous with Livi eventually prevailing 1-0, but with both of the big two already eliminated, it felt like an even bigger opportunity had slipped away.
But after the shock of the round when Premiership champions Rangers were dumped out of the Scottish Cup on penalties by St Johnstone, exactly the same opportunity has somewhat surprisingly presented itself to the Buddies once again.
Jim Goodwin will be desperate that his side can go one at least one step further later this month.
