RORY CASSIDY
Duo were terrorised by bully
A thug has been jailed for threatening witnesses due to give evidence against him.
David Roach, 32, burst into the room at Paisley Sheriff Court, which is off limits to those awaiting trial, and ran his finger along his throat while staring at Stephen Docherty and Natalie McTiernan.
The incident took place in February last year, minutes before the pair were due to give evidence about him allegedly throwing an item at their car as they drove through Paisley in July 2019.
Roach pleaded guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive way by hurling the “unknown object” at their car, attempting to pervert the course of justice, and breaking bail conditions by attempting to contact them.
Sentencing was adjourned for background reports to be prepared and Roach appeared in the dock this week to learn his fate.
After hearing that Roach had struggled to deal with the recent death of his mother, and had missed her funeral as a result, Sheriff Tom McCartney told him the only appropriate sentence was custody.
He jailed Roach for 14 months, reduced from 18 months due to his guilty pleas.
