No new covid cases found in testing blitz

Nearly 400 people turn out in fight against deadly virus

- EDEL KENEALY

No new covid cases were found during a week-long testing drive in Linwood.

Almost 400 people turned out to be tested at Tweedie Hall following the launch of the temporary clinic, which aimed to reduce the rates of Covid-19 in the area.

Seven-day testing initiatives have been launched in communities across Renfrewshire over the past two months in a bid to identify people who may have coronavirus but are not showing symptoms.

Renfrewshire Council, which hosted the facility yesterday, confirmed no positive results were returned for the 396 Linwood residents who took part.

Chris Dalrymple, the council’s chief environmental health officer, said: “I would like to thank everyone in Linwood who turned up and took a test.

“It was great to see a good turnout.

“Around five per cent of

Linwood’s population came along to the testing centre, which compared well with other sites in other areas of the country.

“Asymptomatic testing is helping us stop the spread of Covid-19 in

Renfrewshire and by taking a test you have helped protect your loved ones and your community.”

The drop- in testing centre - which ran from Wednesday, April 21 to Tuesday, April 27 - was open to anyone without symptoms of the virus who lived, worked or went to school in Linwood.

The tests used at the centre were lateral flow tests.

These are quick tests that are processed on site and see results returned via text message within 45 minutes.

People who have symptoms of Covid- 19, including a new persistent cough, high temperature and loss of taste or smell should continue to book a test at a governmentrun site.
