Sheriff blasts attacker for not finishing unpaid work

‘Get these hours done’, thug told

- RON MOORE

A yob who joined in a gang attack on a dad and daughter has been warned to finish her unpaid hours.

Kirsteen Templeton, 21, was among four thugs who attacked and robbed Paul Finnie and daughter Nicole McKechan at a taxi rank in Paisley.

Templeton, from the town, admitted repeatedly kicking Ms McKechan on the body and robbing her of a handbag during the rampage.

She was spared jail, but was placed on a curfew when she appeared for sentencing at Paisley Sheriff Court before Sheriff Colin Pettigrew.

He also handed her a Community Payback Order comprising 18 months of mandatory supervision by the local authority and ordered her to perform 240 hours of unpaid work for the benefit of the community.

She was also warned the punishment was imposed as an alternative to jail when she was sentenced in July, 2019.

Templeton appeared for a review of her conduct yesterday and it emerged that she has still not completed the unpaid work and is on the brink of breaching the punishment order.

She was also appearing for a number of deferred sentences on other matters, including public disorder and breaches of bail.

Defence agent Paul Lynch said: “She has attended court today with her mother and is in possession of a bag of wares, which she has been manufacturing during the course of the lockdown.

“Her information is that hours missing from the order is at most 15, and I would ask she is allowed more time to finish them.

“I would ask she is allowed to deal with this as she is very close to breaching the order.”

Sheriff Pettigrew told her: “You are very close to making me do what I don’t want to do.

“Get your house in order. Get these hours done.

“You are very fortunate you are not appearing on a breach of this Community Payback Order.”

He gave her until May 27 to complete the outstanding hours, adding: “If they are not done, you know what it will be.”

During the attack, the four yobs approached Mr Finnie and Ms McKechan to ask for a cigarette – and when they refused the gang turned violent.

All four either punched or kicked their victims at the town’s County Square.

The appalling attack was captured on CCTV.

Sheriff Pettigrew told Templeton she was fortunate the victims had not suffered far more serious injuries.
