Horse dies in farm blaze

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

A horse has died after a hay barn at a livery yard went up in smoke.

The mystery blaze broke out at Barrhead Equestrian Centre.

The yard for DIY livery is at Salterland Farm behind the former water works.

Four fire engines arrived at the scene after being called in at 11.13pm on Tuesday.

Area fire commander Jim McNeill said:“Sadly, one animal passed away.

“We had been alerted that a farm building was on fire.”

Nobody was available for comment at the business.

On social media, one comment said:“The family are okay. They were out, as far as we know.

“They’re trying to keep the horses safe, but only one of them is theirs, the rest belong to other people.

“Seems crazy someone would do this to a family’s home.”
