Yellow lines plan in bid to halt rogue parking
Residents invited to have their say on tackling problem
Roads chiefs have revealed further plans to clamp down on dodgy parking in Renfrew - with safety measures being drawn up for another troublesome spot.
After launching a consultation on putting double yellow lines in a section of Arkleston Road last month, the council is now asking people to contribute to a survey on proposals to do the same in McGregor Avenue, which provides access to Moorpark Square off Porterfield Road.
Dozens of residents living in Moorpark Square have raised fears about irresponsible parking in the area which has made it difficult for cars to get in and out of the estate.
Many are also worried about children’s safety with the road being so close to St James’ Primary School and Moorpark Early Learning and Childcare Centre (ELCC).
Councillor Jim Paterson, who represents Renfrew South and Gallowhill, said he was pleased to see council bosses acting on the issue and urged people to make their views known to officers.
He said: “Dozens of people raised concerns with me about parking on McGregor Avenue and the issues it was causing for them in safely entering and exiting Moorpark Square.
“There were particular concerns raised about the dangers posed to children’s safety given the road’s proximity to Moorpark ELCC and St James’ Primary.
“I am pleased the concerns have been considered and the traffic regulation order ( TRO) proposal is being progressed to the consultation stage.
“I would encourage any residents with a view of this proposed TRO to provide feedback to Renfrewshire Council.”
The double yellow lines in Arkleston Road are being proposed from the entrance of the David Lloyd Sports Club down to the roundabout which connects with Paisley Road and Renfrew Road.
Before the coronav i rus pandemic, residents raised concerns about drivers leaving their cars on the road and sometimes on adjacent grass while they were visiting the nearby Beijing Banquet restaurant, which often had a full car park.
Residents are being asked to send in their views on the McGregor Avenue plans to es@renfrewshire. gov.uk by Wednesday, May 12.
Those who wish to make their voice heard on the Arkleston Road proposals should send their comments to the same email address before Monday, May 17.
