Athletes jump into new gym
Members of
Twist and Hit Cheerleading jumped into the gym at the weekend as the club launched its new premises.
The cheerleading club officially opened its new gym at McKean Street on Saturday with state of the art facilities.
Marking years of hard work by founder Sarah McNeill, the gym features a host of new equipment which will open the gym up to people in wheelchairs for the first time.
And, with the gym being twice the size of the club’s previous venue on McDowall Street, it will allow more members to practice indoors while adhering to social distancing rules.
Sarah told the Express: “I am the only person in Scotland at the moment who is qualified to teach para cheerleading and I have applied for funding to deliver a five-week programme to people with disabilities free of charge.
“We have soft ramps that allow wheelchair access to the sprung floor, so that will open up it up to those with physical and sensory impairment. I’m really passionate about that.”
At the open day, Sarah thanked members, who have been learning via Zoom for the past year and remained as enthusiastic as ever about their sport.
