Cops swarmed a busy Paisley street yesterday morning after a man was found with life-threatening stab wounds.

The 50 year old was rushed to hospital following an alleged targeted attack in Broomlands Street in the town’s west end.

Officers raced to the scene shortly after 9am following reports that a man was being seriously assaulted.

The busy street was cordoned off for a number of hours and traffic was diverted away from the area while emergency services were on the scene.

Onlookers told the Express they could hear shouting and sirens in the street, with a number of police cars blocking any access to the area.

Police confirmed a 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged serious assault.

A man who tried to discard his drugs in front of cops has been fined by a sheriff.

Calum Macmillan, 38, was clocked coming out a drugs den by officers after buying heroin.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Macmillan was unaware he was under surveillance until it was too late on November 18, last year.

Procurator fiscal depute Michael Cunningham said: “At around 2.45pm, police witnesses on mobile patrol at George Street observed the accused entering a common close.

“Police were aware that the address was documented for the sale and supply of drugs.

“They observed the accused walk away from the common close when they approached and identified themselves.

“He responded by discarding a polythene bag with his hand onto a grassy area nearby.”

The court heard the drugs were seized and tested positive for heroin.

Yesterday, Macmillan of Paisley appeared before Sheriff Bruce Erroch, where he pleaded guilty to possession of heroin, a Class-A substance.

Sheriff Erroch told him: “Were it not for your plea of guilty at the earliest opportunity, I would have fined you £150.

“I will reduce that to £100.”

Macmillan, who is on benefits, was given time to pay his fine.
