Avoiding a sticky situation in election

-

A lack of glue led to last-minute guidance being issued to polling station workers across Renfrewshire yesterday.

Staff were told to be careful they didn’t hand over multiple regional ballot papers to voters.

It emerged the papers - which are normally stuck together in books - were glue-less.

That led to a message being sent to candidates and their agents from Ken Graham, head of Corporate Governance at Renfrewshire Council.

In an email, Graham said:“I wish to make you aware of a detail regarding the regional ballot papers being used for the election today.

“Usually, ballot papers are glued into books of 100.

“On this occasion, although the ballot papers are in books of 100, those books have not been glued.

“This should not cause any issues with the conduct of the election, although the polling station staff have been asked to take extra care when issuing each regional paper.

“I can confirm that the ballot paper books for the constituency elections are all glued.”
