Rain, hail or shine ... it’s playtime for kids
Holyrood hopeful joins nursery staff to unveil outdoor classroom
Children at a Renfrew nursery will be able to get outside no matter the weather thanks to a new outdoor classroom.
Little Flowers Nursery invested in the classroom to develop its outdoor space and invited SNP candidate for Renfrewshire North and West, Councillor Natalie Don to officially open it.
Manager Lauren Millar said: “The goal of the outdoor classroom is to improve the quantity, quality and benefits of outdoor experiences for children.
“We hope that with the added classroom, children will want to spend more time outdoors as we know how important this is to their wellbeing.
“We know that children playing in natural spaces learn to understand and respect nature and the environment, as well as developing their own skills and independence.”
The nursery has space for 82 children from babies to five- years- old and employs 15 members of staff.
Councillor Don said: “It was a pleasure to attend Little Flowers Nursery, in Renfrew, to officially open the outdoor learning centre.
“There are so many benefits to outside play for young children, so it is great to see the nursery has created a dedicated outdoors area for children of all ages, with lots of different play and sensory items, as well as different areas for the children to explore and enjoy.”
“If the past year has taught us anything it is how important our outdoor spaces are.
“It is comforting to know that Little Flowers has taken this on board, creating a safe environment which supports play and gives children a better chance of having a great experience of exploring the world outdoors.”
Councillor Don is standing for the SNP in the Renfrewshire North and West seat with results from yesterday’s election expected to be announced tomorrow.
