Busy day at polling stations

-

Community centres, primary schools and church halls were turned into polling stations across Renfrewshire yesterday as voters made their voices heard in the Scottish Parliament election.

In normal circumstances, ballot papers would have been counted overnight and by now, residents would know who their new MSPs are.

But,due to the coronavirus pandemic, counting will not begin until 9am today at Braehead Arena, with no results anticipated until the early evening.

It’s around that time voters can expect to discover whether George Adam has held onto his seat in Paisley and who the new MSP will be in Renfrewshire North and West in place of Derek Mackay.

The electorate in Renfrewshire South will have to sit tight a little longer, with that result not expected until early afternoon on Saturday.

And the new lay of the land at Holyrood will continue to emerge right into Saturday night, with the West Scotland list result to be confirmed that evening as seven MSPs are elected into office for the region.
