Support for park fundraiser

-

There is still time to make a donation to a village effort to refurbish a play park.

Youngsters in Lochwinnoch have been skipping, jumping, dancing and cartwheeling their way around the village as part of the innovative park fundraiser.

The children, who were taking part in a sponsored-NOT-walk, hopped, hula-hooped and jumped their way around laps of the village playing field.

The recent event was one of several held throughout April to raise funds for the refurbishment of the village park.

Led by Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust, the renovation plans include proposals for a new play area an inter-generational seating area and a teen hangout pod.

The month-long campaign saw the Lochwinnoch Toddlers Group host their own mini-Olympics for pre-schoolers, a local buggy group complete a fancy dress sponsored walk and the Lochwinnoch Hearties – a pensioners keep-fit group – complete 100 sit-ups per week.

Meanwhile, a mass step challenge saw 11 teams of five compete to have clocked the most steps over the 30 days.

So far, they have raised over £7,000 and plan to keep the fundraiser open during May.

Fundraiser Tori Bell said:“The total amount for the renovation project is more like £150,000 but what this event does is demonstrate to the bigger funding sources we’re applying to, that the community supports the idea.”
