Two men seriously hurt after alleged attack

Two men suffered serious injuries in a alleged street attack after they went to a woman’s aid.

It is claimed the men, aged 40 and 36, were struck with weapons during a disturbanc­e in Vernon Drive, inLinwood, on Monday afternoon.

They were both rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment following the incident, which happened at around 2pm.

It is understood the men were targeted when they attempted to intervene in an altercatio­n between two women on the street.

A 38- year- old woman has been charged with an alleged breach of the peace in connection with the initial clash involving a 59-year-old woman.

Two men who went to her aid were targeted by two youths who, it is alleged, launched a weapons attack.

Both men sustained serious injuries and were

rushed to hospital for treatment.

Detectives probing the incident are checking for CCTV opportunit­ies and carrying out door- to- door enquiries in the area.

Police, who are treating the incident a serious assault, have appealed for witnesses to come forward and urge motorists to check dashcam footage.

A force spokesman said: “Two men, aged 36 and 40, were taken to hospital for treatment following an alleged serious assault in Vernon Drive, Linwood, at around 2pm on Monday.

“If you witnessed the incident then we would like to hear from you.

“Similarly, if you have dashcam footage or private CCTV from the area we would ask that you review it to see if you captured anything that may be useful to our investigat­ion.

“If y o u have any informatio­n at all in relation to this incident then we would like to hear from you.”

Two males aged 16 and 17 have been arrested and charged with serious assault.
