Teenage prospect Jay Henderson joked St Mirren’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Kilmarnock ended more like a basketball game than a football match.

With goals flying in at either end of the Rugby Park pitch, it was hard to keep up with the action as the scoreboard kept tipping backwards and forwards on Wednesday night.

Ta l e nt e d 1 9 - y e a rold Henderson insists his Buddies showed tremendous heart and determination to come away from Rugby Park with a point, especially having had just three days to get over their gutting Scottish Cup semi- final loss to St Johnstone.

He wasn’t surprised by the reaction of his teammates, who have shown already this season they are capable of bouncing back in the face of adversity.

Henderson told Express Sport : “It was a brilliant game, so end to end with six goals. It was like basketball towards the end.

“There was a lot of good attacking play from both sides, maybe the defending wasn’t as good but it was great to be a part of.

“We were delighted to come back from 2-0 down. It’s hard to do that, especially away from home.

“We were just trading blows at the end and thankfully we managed to keep hold of a point.

“We were pretty quiet in the first half but it really opened up towards the end of the game. We kept attacking, threw everything forward and in the end it was a great save from Jak Alnwick to grab us the point.

“A f t e r every disappointment this year we’ve come back with a positive result or a positive reaction.

“After such a big disappointment on Sunday, it was great to get a point, having gone behind twice.

“It shows we’re not a team that just gives up or throws in the towel. We’re always fighting for each other.”

One player who came in from the cold and made a huge impact was Henderson’s close pal

Cammy MacPherson.

Having missed out on the action at Hampden altogether after not even making the bench, the young midfielder scored a longrange stunner to equalise at 2- 2 before producing a superb pass to help create the Buddies’ third goal.

He n d e r s o n said: “Cammy’s goal was the best by far, it was an incredible hit.

“It was great to see him scoring and back playing after missing out on the Scottish Cup semi.

“On a big occasion everybody wants to be involved. I’m sure he was disappointed, but he showed a great reaction to come back in and make such a big impact.

“He showed the gaffer what he’s capable of. It was the perfect reaction and helped us get a result in the end.”
