Sign up for Bioblitz weekend

-

Eagle -eyed wildlife spotters are being urged to take part in a biodiversity day.

The Bioblitz event takes place on May 22 and 23 when experts and beginners will join forces to submit as many wildlife records as possible.

Folk in Lochwinnoch are being asked to take part and submit their results to the Garnock Connections team.

Garnock Connections is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and lead by the RSPB in Lochwinnoch. It aims to enhance the wildlife and area around the River Garnock in Ayrshire and into Renfrewshire.

Miriam Lord, Garnock Connections’wildlife recording assistant, said: “A lot of people don’t realise that their wildlife records really make a difference.

“Bioblitz events are a great way of getting started with recording and making a real impact for nature – whether you’re reporting the blackbird in your garden or the dolphins off-shore, every record counts.”

Miriam hopes the collective effort will exceed 250 submissions from across the project landscape, which will be added to a nationwide database used by conservation organisations to protect and preserve natural heritage.

The Garnock Connections website contains resources and guidance specifically for beginners, and the project also has an extensive library of equipment and easy-to-use field guides which are available on loan free of charge.

The Bioblitz is being organised through Go Wild in Garnock, one of the 28 projects which make up the Garnock Connections Landscape Partnership.
