Forbes wins individual Champs

Golfer Daniel Hamilton Forbes was victorious in the West of Scotland Championsh­ips.

It was the turn of the Renfrewshi­re Golf Union (RGU) to host the competitio­n for both teams and individual­s on Sunday, May 9.

The venue chosen was Gleddoch Golf and Country Club, with the RGU expressing their thanks to the club for hosting the event and for the great condition in which the course was presented.

The conditions for the event were good, with a mix of dry spells and some rain with a blustery wind.

The competitio­n attracted an entry of 130, with approximat­ely 40 different clubs represente­d.

The team event was won by Clydebank and District Golf Club, represente­d by Steven Stewart, Calum McAteer and Kieran Quinn with a combined total of 229.

The individual scratch event was won by Daniel Hamilton Forbes, of Irvine Golf Club, who posted an impressive one under par score of 71.

In second place was Callum Macauley, of Tulliallan Golf Club, with a 72, while third place went to Steven Stewart, of Clydebank and District, with a 73.

Fourth and fifth went to Paisley Golf Club’s Philip Gordon and Erskine Golf Club’s Steven Hotson with 74.

The handicap event was won by John Donnelly, of Gleddoch Golf and Country Club, with a score of 83–15 for a 68.

Chris Aiken came second, with Graham Barr in third and David Roberts in fourth.

The next event on the RGU calendar is the County Championsh­ip, which will take place at Paisley Golf Club tomorrow.
