Gemma will have dream wedding thanks to appeal

Community come together to help dying mum

Everything is now set for a very special wedding next month after an urgent plea for help was answered.

People came forward in droves to help Gemma Mcgowan tie the knot in style with her sweetheart Steven Murie.

It followed a plea by Renfrew- based Wedding Wish Makers after mum-of-one Gemma’s heartbreaking story emerged.

The 29-year-old, of Paisley’s Hunterhill, had to bring forward her big day from next year after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Gemma is dying from an extremely rare cancer of the nasal cavity.

Now preparations are all in place for the couple’s dream wedding at the Dalmeny Park Hotel in Barrhead on June 11.

Suzanne Stevenson of Wedding Wish Makers put out a plea for the trade to provide the full range of services, from wedding cars to outfits for the bridesmaids.

They even managed to secure a three tier cake, piper and humanist celebrant.

And a total of nearly £3,800 has also been made in donations to pay for the venue and other fees.

Suzanne revealed: “We now have everything arranged for Gemma and Steven’s wedding apart from a videographer.

“We have had so many messages of support via email, private mail and comments.

“The volume has been overwhelming and we cannot thank everyone who offered their services enough.

“It is an impossible task for us to reply to everyone, however, please know how much we appreciate your kindness.”

She added: “Thank you to all the suppliers who are supporting the couple on their big day.

“What a beautiful day it is going to be.” It took just a couple of days for Wedding Wish Makers to fill all the requirements.

Gemma, an assistant at the Paisley’s Vets for Pets, has been dating Steven for nine years and they have an eight-month-old son Arran.

She gave birth at 32 weeks as surgery was required to remove her cancerous tumour.

Gemma was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the nasal cavity in May last year, one of only three cases in the world.

But now her focus is on having the best day in the world.

Thank you to all the suppliers who are supporting the couple. What a beautiful day it is going to be
