Gentleman Jon bids farewell

-

When Jim Goodwin embraced Jon Obika before he entered the pitch on Sunday afternoon, you sensed it was a significant moment for the striker.

And speaking to the big man after the match, he confirmed that was indeed his last game in the stripes.

Obika has always been a tremendous ambassador for the club on and off the pitch.

Known affectionately by Saints staff as‘Gentleman Jon’, his affable nature quickly made him a fan favourite.

Top goalscorer last season, his memorable strike against Hearts last season also went a long way to securing their top flight status - in part allowing everything they’ve achieved domestically this year to happen.

It’s gutting he didn’t get to say goodbye to the fans at the stadium, or hear his famous Tequila song one last time.

If he does end up moving to another Scottish club and returns to Paisley next year, I’m sure the supporters will sing it loud and proud once again for the gentleman.
