Twisted brute hounded three ex-girlfriends

A jealous young dad who once threatened to kill his ex and a three-week- old baby has racked up his third conviction for domestic abuse - at the age of just 23.

Charles Morrison, who was convicted of terrorising previous girlfriends in 2017 and 2019, has now been convicted of abusing a third partner.

He hounded Catherine Follan in the days following their split - after she called off their three- week relationship due to how aggressive he was towards her.

And Paisley Sheriff Court heard this she was right to dump him, as he repeatedly harassed her over and warned her he would ‘cave’ her ‘head in’ and have thugs beat up her mum.

He continued to bombard her with phone calls and text messages after she’d reported him to police over the abuse.

The details emerged when Morrison, of Paisley, appeared in the dock to be sentenced over the latest domestic abuse, which took place in the town’s West End in April 2020.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to behaving aggressively towards Miss Follan, shouting, swearing and being abusive to her, threatening her with violence, following her and bombarding her with calls and texts.

Procurator fiscal depute Kirsten Brierley explained: “The witness and the accused were in a relationship for approximately three weeks.

“Miss Follan ended the relationship on April 22, apparently due to the accused’s aggressive nature.”

The court heard she texted

Morrison to ask for her belongings back.

As she did not want to be alone with him, she asked if he could give her things back to her at his work, as it was a public place.

But, when she arrived, he did not have her belongings and they walked to his home to get them.

Miss Brierley, prosecuting, explained: “He was shouting and swearing and repeatedly referred to her as ‘a wee skank’ and ‘a wee slut’.

“The accused stood in the path of her and was staring into her eyes. She attempted to push past, but the accused stopped her.

“She stated she was fearful of him, to which he stated, ‘ You should be, you don’t know what I’m capable of’.

“He entered his address, retrieved her belongings and then gave them to her.

“He requested she come in and she refused. He said, ‘I’m going to cave your head in and I’m going to get people to do your mum in.’.

“Due to the threats to her mother, she entered the locus and stayed there for around two hours.

“The accused continued to refer to her as ‘a wee skank’ and ‘a wee slut’.”

When she went to leave, he began following her, saying he was walking her home and he continued to text her once she was home.

She told the police what had happened and officers went to see Morrison, but he continued to hound her, calling her eight times in 16 minutes and texting her 19 times, telling her he knew she’d contacted the police.

Defence solicitor Amy Spencer said: “He’s only 23 and obviously has a real difficulty with rejection and trust issues.

“He realises he’s right on a knife edge.”

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew said: “Your record of previous convictions, for someone your age, is appalling.”

He placed Morrison on a Community Payback Order, which will see him supervised by social workers for two years, and having to complete 270 hours’ unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He was also made the subject of a Non-Harassment Order, which sees him banned from approaching or contacting Miss Follan in any way, entering her home street, or posting about her on social media, for the next five years.

In 2019, the same court heard Morrison hounded another former partner after their 11-month relationship ended. He threatened to kill her and a three-week-old boy.

He was also placed on a Community Payback Order.
