£90k boost for parks
Councillors have welcomed almost £90,000 of fresh funding two upgrade two community parks in Paisley.
Friends of West Primary and Paisley West and Central Community Council were both handed bumper grants through Renfrewshire Council’s Greenspaces Fund.
The Friends of West Primary has been awarded £40,000 to improve Maxwellton Park and the neighbouring sensory garden.
The play area is popular with children that attend two nearby schools and a nursery.
The grant will be used to upgrade the play park with eight new pieces of equipment.
A further fundraising effort is taking place in partnership with Engage Renfrewshire to improve the area.
SNP councillors Kenny and Mags MacLaren also welcomed the decision of the Communities, Housing and Planning policy board to award Paisley West and Central Community Council £49,000 to install a green gym in Ferguslie Gardens.
The much-loved, but often underused park will benefit from new equipment, with the hope of attracting more visitors.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren said:“We were happy to approve the grants for both these projects.
“It’s great to see investment in local parks and gardens.
“Paisley West and Central Community Council has been an exemplar of a community council that is active and works with everyone to promote their area.
“It has held various successful events, including using the Ferguslie Gardens for open days and this development will make the gardens more attractive to locals and visitors alike.”
Councillor Mags MacLaren added:“The Friends of West Primary - along with its partners – has done well in tidying up the play area and the sensory garden.
“They have ambitious plans for both areas and this funding will go a long way to making those plans come to life.
“It’s great that it is also working with Engage Renfrewshire to look for other funding sources to complete the renovation of both areas.”
