Masked thief snatched handbag

-

A hooded bike yob snatched a woman’s handbag as she walked in Johnstone woods.

Cops are hunting the thief who grabbed the woman’s bag in Rannoch Woods, near Elm Drive, around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Police say the victim was unhurt, but has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.

It is understood the woman’s River Island bag contained personal belongings and cash.

Police probing the incident said the suspect wore a black mask and had his hood up during the mugging.

They have called on any witnesses who might have been in the area to come forward.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, Renfrewshire deputy area commander, said: “The victim was walking through Rannoch Woods near Elm Drive, in Johnstone, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday when she was approached by a male on a bicycle.

“The male grabbed her bag before cycling off.

“The victim was uninjured, but is understandably upset by what happened.”

She added: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened or who may have seen a cyclist with a hooded top in the area around this time. If you find a River Island bag dumped in the area then we would also urge you to come forward to police.”

Meanwhile, police are investigating after a yob booted a Renfrewshire Council bin man who refused to do his dirty work.

The lout leaned out the window of his white van at the McDonald’s car park at Phoenix Retail Park and asked the 19-year-old refuse worker to stick his rubbish in the bin.

When the worker said no, the thug jumped out of van and kicked him.

Police are investigating the assault, which happened around 10am on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman said: “If you witnessed what happened, please come forward to police.”
