Road closures as bridge work begins

-

Drivers are being warned there will be road closures at a busy junction next week.

Work is due to start to reinstall a new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Black Cart river.

The work is taking place at the junction of the A8 Greenock Road, Inchinnan Road and Abbotsinch Road in Renfrew.

There will be no access for road users, cyclists and pedestrians during the closures.

The first closure is overnight from 6pm on tomorrow till 6am on Sunday, then from 3pm on Sunday till 6am the next morning.

It will be closed again from 7pm till 6am on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the road reopening at 6am on Thursday, May 27.

Just under six months ago, the 160-ton structure (pictured left) collapsed as contractors Wills Bros Civil Engineering tried to put it in place as part of a series of new connections into the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland, which is being built near to Glasgow Airport.

The incident threw the schedule for the works into chaos.
