Kenny got moving to raise Kiltwalk cash

-

Paisley councillor Kenny MacLaren got on the move to help others with their mobility as he raised £1,005 in the virtual Kiltwalk.

The elected member for Paisley Northwest walked ten miles for three days for Shop Mobility Paisley and District.

He said:“I’d like to thank everyone who donated to the virtual Kiltwalk fundraiser and, of course, the Tom Hunter Foundation which added an extra 50 per cent to the final amount raised,”

Councillor MacLaren has been a volunteer director of Shopmobility Paisley and District for just over a year, helping to support the organisation and promote the services that it provides.

Shopmobility, based on the ground floor of the Paisley Centre car park in Storie Street, Paisley, aims to tackle social exclusion caused by mobility problems.

One of the ways they do this is to offer free daily hire of mobility scooters and wheelchairs to their members – with membership being free for all Renfrewshire residents – and a small charge for either overnight or holiday hire of scooters and wheelchairs.

Councillor MacLaren added:

“I’ve obviously known how vital Shopmobility was for a number of years but my experience as a volunteer director has only strengthened my support for this essential charity which changes people’s lives by giving them back their freedom and confidence.

“Shopmobility Paisley and District provides excellent services for all Renfrewshire residents from free daily scooter hire (for members – membership is free) to scooter repairs at reasonable costs and I thought this was a chance to help.

“When I realised the walk was coming up I immediately thought this would be a good way to show my support for Shopmobility, so I signed up to do my bit.

“I successfully walked, ran and hobbled ten miles per day for each of the three days of the Kiltwalk.”

Richard Vassie, chairperson of Shopmobility Paisley and District, said:“Shopmobility relies on grants and fundraising activities such as the virtual Kiltwalk to help raise the funds to keep the organisation going.

“Kenny has been a great help as a volunteer director and this fundraiser will help Shopmobility to continue to serve those with mobility problems in Renfrewshire.”
