All mod cons at museum
A four-year modernisation programme at Paisley Museum and Art Galleries finished in April 1955.
The final piece of the jigsaw was the creation of a Paisley History Room.
And the new building was declared open in a ceremony hosted by the Rev Sydney C Still, a former convener of the Museum Committee,.
He looked as proud as punch as he made a speech before cutting a ribbon to allow the public inside.
The opening was performed during the annual meeting of the Scottish Federation of Museums and Art Galleries, attended by around 40 representatives from all over Scotland.
Dustproof cases, fluorescent lighting and pastel decoration all contributed to a general improvement.
No longer would the museum be described, somewhat unfairly, as an overcrowded warehouse!
