Homeowners urged to be vigilant after high value break-ins

Police say two raids in Renfrew homes could be linked

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Cops probing two high value break- ins on the same Renfrew estate days apart fear a criminal gang is operating in the area.

Two homes in the Deanpark area of the town were targeted by thieves over the last five days.

In the first incident, crooks broke into a house in Tarras Drive while the owners were away between Thursday night and Friday morning.

It’s understood they stole thousands of pounds worth of high value items from the property.

And police believe the incident may be linked to a second breakin which took place nearby on Sunday.

Owners of a home in Morriston Crescent left around 12.15pm and returned around 5.45pm to find the place had been ransacked.

High value items were again missing from the property.

Police said it appears the thefts are linked but added they are a keeping an open mind as detectives continue their enquiries.

They have urged anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area to come forward and called on homeowners to be vigilant.

Inspector Damian Kane, from Renfrewshire’s community policing team said: “These incidents took place relatively near to each other a few days apart.

“At this stage we are keeping an open mind as to whether or not they are linked.”

He added: “We would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed either of these incidents to come forward to police.

“Have you seen any suspicious or unusual behaviour in the area such as cars you don’t recognise?

“If so we would like to hear from you.

“We are carrying out extensive enquires into these incidents and I would ask anyone who has private space CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to review if you have captured anything which may be useful to our investigation.

“I would also ask homeowners to remain vigilant and ensure doors and windows are locked at all times.”
