Bridge opening
Councillors have welcomed news that the White Cart footbridge at Abercorn Street is set to open at the end of next week.
The crossing linking Paisley and Renfrew had been due to open in April.
Additional work to the pedestrian and cycling bridge’s under section pushed back the opening.
Council officers confirmed in a report to the local authorities Infrastructure, Land and Economy board that work is now close to completion.
C o u n c i l l o r Ke n n y MacLaren, member for Paisley Northwest, said: “This is great news, seeing this pedestrian footbridge come back into life and helping develop new links across the White Cart.
“I remember using this footbridge as a shortcut when going to St Mirren games at Love Street, so I’m glad it’s now finally been refurbished and brought back in use.”
Councillor Mags MacLaren added: “It was confirmed by council officers that there was a delay to the programme due to some more detailed works on the under section of the bridge than originally anticipated. This means additional support to combat the wind effects on the additional scaffolding.”
