Regeneration plans get going
Renfrewshire is a wonderful place to live, work and visit and my SNP administration is committed to investing in our communities to help them thrive for years to come.
Last week we launched a consultation for the first phase of our Regeneration and Renewal Programme which will invest £100million in housing across Renfrewshire over the next 10 years.
This programme will transform council housing across Renfrewshire by improving our existing housing stock and delivering modern, high-quality energy efficient, affordable homes.
The first phase of the programme will focus on Auchentorlie Quadrant,
Howard Street, Waverley Road, Thrushcraigs, Springbank Road, Broomlands, Moorpark and Howwood Road.
We will be talking to residents in these streets and areas as part of the consultation and will create neighbourhood place plans for each area which will set out how we can work with our partners to deliver services that better meet their needs.
I would urge any residents who are asked to take part in this consultation to get involved and have their say.
We want to hear your views and work with you to create communities that will meet your needs for years to come.
Work has also begun on 101 new council and shared-equity homes on the site of the former St Fergus Primary in Ferguslie Park, with ground being broken late last month.
This project is an important part of our wider regeneration plans for Ferguslie Park and I am excited to see work progress on site over the coming months.
Our roads improvement programme for 2021/22 is also now underway, with £8 million being invested across the network.
My SNP administration knows how important the roads network is for our communities.
Our new investment programme will carry out upgrades in every town and village in Renfrewshire as roads are either resurfaced, restored ahead of future resurfacing or minor repairs are carried out.
Projects which were delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions will also be included in this year’s programme.
The work is part of a £47 million, six-year investment in our roads network.
Finally, I was delighted to see so many exciting projects receive funding from our Green Spaces, Parks and Play Areas and Villages Investment Fund.
Projects to upgrade tennis courts and create a multi-use games area in Langbank, build an outdoor gym in Ferguslie Park Gardens, a community park in Spateston and improve play areas in Elderslie, Lochwinnoch, Houston and Paisley all received a share of £522,466 during the last round of funding earlier this month.
Two environmental projects to develop Tuecheen Ancient Woods and Inchinnan and Rossland Circle in Bishopton into community green spaces also received financial backing.
This fund is so important, not only for our communities but for the environment, and I am delighted we have been able to help more people transform their areas, preserve their heritage and support green initiatives during the latest round of funding.
If you have a project which could benefit from our Green Spaces, Parks and Play Areas and Villages Investment Fund, visit the council’s website.
