CREEP COP SENT GIRL SNAPCHAT SEX TEXTS

Teen, 16, felt ‘violated’ by married dad’s sleaze

- COURT REPORTER

A married transport cop has been convicted of sending sexual messages to a schoolgirl.

Creep Iain Bagley, 42, from Renfrew, sent Snapchats to the 16- year- old, asking if she’d like to be privately searched, and if she was wearing pyjamas to bed.

He had denied sending the messages without consent and placing the girl in alarm or distress.

But Sheriff Stuart Reid found him guilty stating: “The Crown have established ... there was no consent on the part of the victim.”

Sheriff Reid decided to admonish Bagley for a number of reasons, including ‘the potential consequences’ for the pervert. He has been an officer with the British Transport Police since 2016 and was put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the first offender met his young victim, from Rutherglen, through a relative.

A picture of Bagley in uniform was sent during the early exchanges.

He asked the girl for “more exciting” pictures and if she had a boyfriend.

The girl spoke about eating pizza, to which Bagley replied: “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.”

Another message read: “You need your beauty sleep” followed by a love heart and a kiss emoji.

The girl claimed the conversation became “more sexual” and that she was “innocent” at the time.

They discussed the girl’s drama class and how she did not know what

costume c she would be wearing. w

Bagley told her: “You will ju just have to make it up for me.”

Prosecutor Chris Farrell a asked the girl what Bagley’s m motive was behind the m message.

She said: “To dress up for h him and not for anyone else. I felt violated.”

Mr Farrell asked why t the girl did not end the c conversation.

She said: “I felt I couldn’t.” The girl added that she w would ask Bagley when and w where he was working in o order to avoid meeting him a at train stations.

She told him in a message a at night that she was getting r ready for bed.

Bagley went on to say: “Pyjamas on or off?”

The girl replied: “On” and Bagley then stated: “Shame.”

She asked Bagley: “If I’m ever out in town and you are on duty and saw me doing something, would you say something, give me a warning or arrest me.”

Bagley’s reply included: “If you want handcuffed that can be arranged but you won’t be arrested.”

The girl replied: “That’s not what I meant.”

Bagley responded: “You will be asking me to search you next.”

Mr Farrell stated that it could have appeared she was content with the context of the messages, which were sent between February and April 2019.

The girl replied: “No, I’m the kind of person that doesn’t want to upset people and says ‘okay, it’s fine’.”

A l i s t a i r McGar ve y , defending, told the court Bagley’s conduct was “illjudged and fell below the normal standard”.

He added: “He came to Glasgow from the Hebrides in 2016 and has a wife and three children.

“He was placed on restrictive duties until the outcome of this matter. I expected there will be consequences, given the conviction.”
