Let’s bowl!
Top title for Tom
Caledonia Bowling Club’s Tom Pattison has enjoyed more than 50 opening days - but this year was extra special as he earned the title of honorary vice president.
Tom, 75, was handed the honour by president Gary Morrison surrounded by friends and family at the club in Paisley’s north end.
After more than half a century on the greens and a lifetime dedication to the club and its members, Tom was delighted to receive the important recognition.
Tom told the Express: “It is a privilege to be made honorary vice president. I joined when I was 22, so the club has been with me my whole life.
“My late brother Hugh was an honorary member and my brother Alan is also an honorary member.
“My sons Craig and Gregor are members.
“For me, it has always been about family, nephews and brothers all playing at the same place.”
Modest Tom represented Renfrewshire more than 150 times during a 25- year spell from the 1980s and hoovered up every club trophy available.
And, as he reflects back over the last five decades in the sport, he says things are looking healthier than ever.
He added: “The biggest change is that there are younger people playing now.
“At Caledonia, we have a number of really terrific young players and that gives me great satisfaction to see. I hope that continues in the future.”
Club president Gary Morrison revealed he was delighted when Tom accepted his new role at the club.
He said: “Tom has been a fantastic ambassador for Caledonia Bowling Club both on and off the green.
“As well as winning every trophy at the club multiple times, he has played for Renfrewshire more than 150 times and is well known and respected not only locally but up and down the country.
“He has given more than 50 years service to the club so we are delighted that he accepted the role as honorary vice president.”
