Wave in your wellies for this year’s Houston show tractor run event
Fun-loving farmers are ploughing new furrows to get their annual show on this year.
And the organising team at Houston Agricultural Show have managed to put the joy back into the event.
People are being encouraged to Wave in your Wellies.
The opening Tractor Run hits the road on Friday - and organisers want people to don their boots and give them a wave.
The show has put together a trailer for the 2021 event - while perched on the back of a real trailer in a cow shed.
Show president Tom Stewart said:“It’s great we have been able to get lots on this year.
“I would encourage everyone in the area to come on out in their wellies and give us a wave.”
The Tractor Run begins at Gryffe High at 6pm and goes right round the village.
A show spokesman said:“Join us in the streets of Houston to see all different colours of tractors.
“Why not dress up as a mini farmer or your favourite farm animal?
“Wave to your local farmers and agricultural workers as they pass by your street and celebrate all that is exciting about living in the countryside.”
Children are also being asked to draw a set of wellies and put them in their windows.
Megan Colvin, the Light Horse convenor, is running a prelim dressage and an introduction day.
Aly Young, the show’s vice president, is looking forward to the virtual event.
He said:“I will be on the tractor run on the Friday night, and then on the Saturday we have the popular Houston’s Got Talent.
“At 1pm I will be doing Ask Aly to answer farming questions.”
Talent show winners get a one-hour trek with alpacas.
Prizes are being offered by local businesses and are up for grabs via the show’s Facebook page.
One of the competitions is to photograph a floral arrangement in a recycled coffee cup.
Entries are also being encouraged for a virtual dog show and the results will be revealed at 5pm on Saturday.
