Have a say on community regeneration plan

-

Seedhill residents are being urged to get involved with a £200,000 arts project to regenerate the area.

RIG Arts is behind Evolve Seedhill, an 18-month-long project which aims to revitalise the area using community arts.

And they need to enlist people from Seedhill to tell them what the area wants and needs.

Rebecca Livesey-Wright is the project co-ordinator who is currently recruiting artists and members of the public to join Evolve Seedhill’s steering group.

“Anyone from the community who’s interested and wants to have their voice heard can get involved,”she said.

“We meet once a month, normally for about two hours. It’s your way to have a chance to see how the project evolves.

“We want a diverse representation of views. None of us are from Paisley so it’s really important to have people from Seedhill informing us.

“The steering group is just one way to get feedback. We’ve got Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and in previous projects we’ve run, we’ve had feedback via Facebook or at workshops.

“We do take the feedback seriously, even if it just seems like a silly suggestion.

“We want the Facebook group to be busy so even if you can’t join the steering group, please join the Facebook group and get involved.”

She added:“The project is still growing its legs. We haven’t lead any workshops yet but we’ve had our first steering group meeting.”

The project will centre around the McKerrell Street Park space and Williamsburgh Housing Association’s existing community flat, enhanced by RIG Arts capacity to nurture and deliver online engagement. All workshops and events will be free and accessible for all abilities.

Evolve Seedhill will include an artist-in-residency programme, creative workshops, events and the use of green and underused spaces.

It aims to build on the existing community momentum formed during RIG Arts’previous project in the Paisley area, the Seedhill Urban Growing and Recycling project (SUGaR). SUGaR was a food growing and upcycling project which ran from 2016 till 2019.

Funding for Evolve Seedhill came from Creative Scotland’s Culture Collective fund and RIG Arts is working with partners Williamsburgh Housing Association and Renfrewshire Leisure.
