Blaze at park

-

A mystery woodland blaze thought to have been started by youths sent smoke billowing towards homes.

Trees and bushes had been set on fire on the edge of Barshaw Park.

It happened at the top end of Oldhall Road in Ralston close to Barshaw golf course.

A fire team managed to quickly quell the flames on Tuesday night.

Resident Margaret Watson publicly praised the brigade.

She said: “A huge thank you to the Paisley fire service.

“They extinguished a fire opposite our houses on Oldhall Road. They were also helped by neighbours and a passing fireman, so grateful to all.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed nobody was hurt.

A spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 8.17pm on Tuesday, June 1 to reports of trees on fire in Barshaw Park, Paisley. Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene to extinguish the fire.

“There were no reported casualties.

“Firefighters left after making the area safe.”
