Bishopton fight back to topple Motherwell
MOTHERWELL - 3 BISHOPTON - 4
Bishopton Ladies battled hard to comeback twice and earn an exciting victory.
Bishopton travelled through to Bothwellhaugh for their second and final pre-season match with Motherwell Development.
Bishopton were soon behind when Well’s Carolanne Cullen slammed home from a free kick, taking advantage of Bishopton indecision at the back.
The village side were soon level from a free kick when the ball was squared to Jennifer McMahon who belted home a stunner in off the left hand upright.
The Steelwomen were back in front taking advantage of more Bishopton indecision with Megan Glancy thumping the ball home from 12 yards.
Bishopton almost squared the match when Caitlin Greaves squared the ball for Pauline Cleary, only to see her thunderous drive cannon off the bar.
Bishopton levelled once again on the stroke of half time. A long ball from Katie caught Motherwell square at the back and Greaves slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs to equalise.
Bishopton came out of the traps in the second half like a whirlwind and took the lead for the first time in the game just a minute after the restart.
A great run and strike by Laura Inglis was parried into Danielle Claire Mullen’s path and the striker volleyed the ball into the net from close range.
Just two minutes later Bishopton had scored again. This time the pass of the match from Inglis cut Motherwell open to allow Helen Milligan to slot the ball home from a tight angle.
Motherwell grabbed a consolation when a Sam McManus strike flew over Kylie Sims in goals, but Bishopton held firm to seal the win.
Bishopton’s West-Southwest League campaign kicks off this Sunday with a home clash against Ayr United. Kick off is 1pm at Linwood Mossedge.
