Boy pulled from river in ‘critical’ condition

A teenager was last night fighting for his life after being pulled from the River Gryffe.

The boy, whose age is unknown, was in a critical condition in hospital after being pulled from the water by paramedics on Wednesday.

Emergency services raced to Auchans Farm in Houston following reports from members of the public of the boy in the water.

The teen was recovered from the river shortly after medics arrived around 6.50pm and was rushed by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

The boy was last night fighting for his life, with police saying his condition was ‘critical’.

The circumstan­ces of the incident are not currently known and police are now investigat­ing to establish what happened to the youngster in the water.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of a teenage boy in the River Gryffe near to Auchans Farm around 6.50pm on Wednesday.

“The boy was recovered from the water and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he remains in a critical condition. Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstan­ces.”
