Father and son accused of attack

-

A father and son are set to go on trial accused of a street attack that allegedly left their victim scarred for life.

John Winters, 52, and Oliver Winters, 28, are said to have set upon their victim in Linwood.

Prosecutors claim the pair, of Johnstone, attacked Hugh Ferris on May 22 this year.

It’s alleged they assaulted Mr Ferris in Lochead Avenue, near to Ryewraes Road, Linwood, by repeatedly punching him on the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

The assault charge they face states that, once on the ground, they rained punches and kicks on his head and body, leaving him badly hurt and scarred for life.

Oliver faces a second charge that he caused a rammy at a hospital on the same date.

He is alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive way, which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm, at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley.

Prosecutors claim he acted in an aggressive manner and repeatedly shouted and swore.

The case against the pair first called at Paisley Sheriff Court last week.

John made no plea to the single charge against him and was released on bail.

Oliver also made no plea and was remanded in custody as the case against him was continued.

He made his second court appearance in connection with the case on Tuesday, represented by defence solicitor Amy Spencer.

He again made no plea to the two charges he faced and was remanded in custody, after being fully committed for trial.

No future court dates have been set, but the pair are set to go on trial in due course, subject to delays caused to the justice system by the Covid-19 pandemic.
