Torrance puts in a fine showing in Spanish Masters

-

Young Paisley badminton star Ciara Torrance reached the final four of a huge competition in Spain.

The 21-year-old prospect travelled with Scotland’s best players to compete in the Spanish Masters, held in Huelva, last month.

She competed in the mixed doubles and women’s doubles, alongside Matthew Grimley and Julie MacPherson respectively.

And while she unfortunately lost out in the first round of the mixed doubles to Danish pair Niclas Nohr and Amalie Magelund, she enjoyed a much better run in the women’s category alongside MacPherson.

The pair produced an incredible performance to seal an outstanding 21-14 13-21 21-14 quarter-final win over Danish fourth seeds Julie Finne-Ipsen and Mai Surrow.

In the semi-finals they faced the category favourites, Indonesian pair Yulfira Barkah and Febby Valencia Gani.

Unfortunately they couldn’t find a way past the talented shuttlers, going down to a 10-21, 14-21 loss.

Torrance and MacPherson could take solace from the fact they lost to the eventual winners, after the Indonesian double team beat Amalie Magelund and Freja Ravn in the final.

Talented Scot Adam Hall also enjoyed a strong tournament, making it through to the men’s doubles semi-finals alongside Danish partner Frederik Sogaard and the mixed doubles semi-finals with MacPherson.
