We’re having fun in the sun in Ferguslie Park

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

Wall-to-wall sunshine was the “cherry on top” as Ferguslie Park enjoyed a Bank Holiday bonanza.

Four hundred people flocked to the Village Green on Monday for what turned out to be an epic day of picnic fun in the sun.

The delayed Easter event was organised by an eightstrong volunteer team from the Darkwood Crew.

And Secretary Terry McTernan said: “The day drummed home the significance and difference volunteering in your community can make.

“While we were in the middle of the day I stopped to think that if it were not for volunteers, all this would not be happening.”

People brought their own rugs and chairs and sat socially distanced across the green.

And families lapped it up as there was a feeling a social normality had returned.

Ter ry added: “The community were so up for it, they have been climbing the walls for such a long time.

“We are delighted to have pulled it off and we could not have asked for any better an event.

”It felt like a real landmark and a celebration of how Ferguslie Park has come through this.

The picnic including free treats was run in conjuction with Bridge of Weir Leather and the Tannahill Centre Big Ideas Fund.

And with activities including inflatables, an outdoor soft play area, sumo wrestling and bingo provided from the community bus, it will be remembered as a magic day out.
