Man stole vodka from shop

-

A shoplifter who stole two bottles of vodka from a shop in Erskine will have to wait to find out his fate.

Andrew Sutherly, was caught stealing the bottles of Smirnoff from Aldi in Bridgewater, Erskine, on February 27 this year.

The 46-year-old, of Blantyre Court in Paisley, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday where he admitted the charges against him.

His defence solicitor, Amy Spencer, told the court Sutherly is taking a number of medications for his mental health which cause him to behave in a concerning manner when he consumes alcohol.

She said her client was vulnerable due to his condition and had little recollection of the offence.

She said: “The value of this theft was £26.99.

“He has been diagnosed with a series of disorders and has a long standing history of psychiatric difficulties.

“However, he is currently engag i n g w e l l w i t h psychiatric services.

“When he consumes alcohol on top of his medication he behaves in a manner which is indicated by the charge.

“He has little recollection of it and while he accepts responsibilty for his actions, he is a vulnerable man who is in need of support due to the issues he has.”

Sheriff David Pender deferred sentencing Sutherly in regards to this matter and adjourned the case to call alongside another matter at Paisley Sheriff Court later this year.

Sutherly was ordered to be of good behaviour and will return to court on October 4 for sentencing where he will learn his fate.
