Scouts get growing at outdoor meetings

- ALISON RENNIE

Beaver Scouts have been keeping busy planting strawberries, tying knots and welcoming new members.

Members of the 5th Paisley and District (Oldhall) Beaver colony have been meeting outside in Barshaw Park.

The colony recently added five new members and had a ceremony in the park’s walled garden to welcome them.

They’ve also been busy planting strawberry plants to earn their gardener badges and have also completed the safety badge, explore badge and learned new skills like knot tying and team work.

Jeanette Savage, group scout leader, said: “We try to use the walled garden at Barshaw Park whenever we can.

“During lockdown we managed to do the cooking badge and the experiment badge on Zoom which was fun.

“We also have a very active cub pack and scout troop and if there is anyone who would be interested in volunteering with the group then we would be happy to welcome them to join us.”
