Clouds clear in time for a partial eclipse

-

Buddies managed to witness a partial solar eclipse yesterday.

Known as an annular eclipse, it happens when the moon travels across the face of the sun, but does not completely block out the light coming from it.

Instead, there was a thin sliver of brilliance - or ring of fire - left to shine around the sun’s disc.

With the full eclipse only visible from the Arctic, Scotland was instead treated to a partial eclipse when the moon appears to have taken a big bite out of the sun.

The celestial event was captured on camera by Paisley’s Patrick Bradley.

The Foxbar man said he was delighted that a break in the cloud cover allowed him to witness the special event.

He said:“I usually go for a walk and had tried to time it along with the timeframe of the eclipse.

“But the cloud cover during the course of the walk made me feel doubtful about seeing anything.

“It was only until I had reached home that there was a small break in the clouds, so I just chanced a look through my phone camera and took a few snaps to see if I could get it.

“I wasn’t really expecting much, but the camera managed to capture it through the cloud.”

Patrick kindly shared his snap on Facebook to allow friends and fellow Buddies who may have missed it to see the spectacular event.
