Defence agent Rhona Lynch said her client, who works as a passenger assistant at Glasgow Airport, was “deeply remorseful” and “at pains over the way he behaved”.

She said: “They are engaged to be married. She is pregnant with the accused’s child.

“He is actually a sensitive and caring person and what my client has done is clearly out of character.

“He has no idea why he behaved in that manner. However, he was intoxicated.

“His partner wishes for him to return home where he helps care for her and support her.”

Ms Lynch added Withers, who is a first offender, has also offered to pay for the damage done to his friends’ property in Renfrew.

She said he also stopped drinking alcohol entirely.

Sheriff Thorley said that he was prepared to lift bail conditions and allow him to return to live with his fiancée.

However, he deferred sentencing and warned him to be of good behaviour.

He said: “There must be no further offending and no further incidents involving your partner.”

Withers will return to court on December 10 when he will learn his fate.
