Arthurlie progress as Barrhead side edge seven goal thriller

-

KILSYTH RANGERS ............................................ 3 ARTHURLIE ........................................................... 4 restored the lead as he chipped the keeper with a great finish for a half-time score of 3-2.

Unsurprisingly, the second half was a bit less frantic but there was no shortage of good football from both sides.

Simeon held possession well, despite some close attention, to fire an angled shot just past before Smith had a goalbound shot saved.

Ramsay, who had just tested the keeper with a powerful low shot, sent in a cross which just evaded Nad Zeb at the far post.

Zeb was involved in the next significant incident in the 80th minute when he was brought down just outside the box by Murphy, who was yellow-carded.

And it led to Arthurlie finally establishing a two-goal lead when Smith curled the free kick round the defensive wall.

It was anything but game over though as the hosts replied with an almost carbon-copy free kick, taken by Gavin Mackie.

It was a nervy final minute plus stoppage time for the visitors, but there was no more scoring and the third round now beckons.

‘Lie coach Craig Palmer had no doubts Arthurlie earned their place .

He told the club’s website:“We are just happy to be in the next round of the cup as that was the be-all-and-end-all of the game.

“Obviously it’s great to have had a good performance, which we had apart from the odd mistake, but we deserved it over the 90 minutes.

“It’s all about winning games, sometimes ugly rather than nice, especially when it’s a cup tie.”
