Carers are on the move to Corrine’s new charity hub

Organisations will be under one roof

Renfrewshire Carers Centre is the latest addition to a new charity hub in Paisley’s town centre.

The organisation - which supports people who care for their loved ones is joining fellow Renfrewshire charity Finding Your Feet at St James’ House.

Earlier this year, the amputee and limb absence support charity - led by irrepressible quadruple amputee Corinne Hutton - revealed the building would open its doors to other third sector groups after it took control of the entire building.

Finding Your Feet plans to rent space in the four-floor Paisley block to other groups that are determined to make a difference.

Lochwinnoch mum-of-one Corinne, who was among the first people in the UK to receive a double hand transplant, previously said the new hub is an exciting chance for groups to come together under one roof and to finally have a permanent base.

And Renfrewshire Carer’s Centre said it “couldn’t wait to be involved” in the plans.

Staff and volunteers will be making the big move to the new building at the beginning of 2022.

Bosses say moving on from the impact of Covid-19 and improving the health and well-being of staff carers and their loved ones was the driving force behind the decision.

A spokesperson for the carers’ centre said: “The building has undergone an amazing transformation in the past six months, and we will have exclusive use of the top floor of the building.

“We have been able to define the space to our specifications to meet the requirements of our carers and their families and over the next couple of months our contractors - builders, painters, plumbers will be busy little bees getting our new home ready.

“The new site is more central and accessible, being nearer to the town and transport links.

“It is bright and spacious and has great shared facilities.

“We will be able to safely host our groups in comfortable, spacious, airy rooms and offer more sessions and grow our portfolio in the years to come.

“A key factor in the decision to move was the safety and wellbeing of our staff, carers, and their loved one’s post covid and how we can develop our future ambitions and strategies, safely and effectively.

“We feel the new site offers us the opportunity to move forward from covid and plan, grow and develop new services, securing the future of the centre.

“We are delighted that we will be working closely with great charity partners such as Finding Your Feet, Home Start and We are With You, to name just a few.

“These close links will help us work collaboratively and enhance the services we offer to our carers.”
