Spree is very much alive and kicking
Paisley’s popular Spree festival has been a huge success after it was cancelled last year due to coronavirus.
Organised by Renfrewshire Council, The Spree has helped establish Paisley as one of Scotland’s key cultural destinations for major events – and it didn’t disappoint this year.
Revellers have turned up in their thousands to enjoy live music, comedy acts, and arts and crafts this year as the festival hit the ground running.
And although it finishes up today for it’s ninth year, there’s still plenty of acts to enjoy.
The Rezillos plus special guests will close The Spree festival this year, bringing their blend of raucous punk rock back to Paisley – a town famed for its historic punk scene.
Kicking off at 7pm at the Spiegeltent, tickets are £22.50 and can be purchased online.
And the Wee Spree will ensure there’s still activities for the youngsters.
Arts, crafts and science hub will take place between noon and 4pm at the Methodist Central Hall,Paisley.
Parents are encouraged to drop in anytime to the free Wee Spree Arts, Crafts & Science Hub, and join local artists offering simple and fun making activities for all ages.
You can also experience the fun and excitement of a trip to the Glasgow Science Centre right here in Paisley, as their on tour team facilitate a number of the centre’s interactive, mobile exhibits. Tea, coffee and delicious bakes will be available to buy.
And Spree For All has a jampacked lineup today making sure there is something for everyone. Byres Road Big Band will be live at The Bungalow at 2pm, where entry is free.
And they will be kicking off at 9pm in Habbies.
The Deep Shining Sea will be at the River Inn from 9pm.
Proponents of an anthemic indie rock sound that invokes not only the era of Britpop but the best of the genre’s present crop of artists, The Deep Shining Sea have wasted little time in making a name for themselves on the local circuit.
Just a little over a year on from their wondrous debut single Girl There’s Something You Should Know, TDSS have proven themselves to be one of the most versatile and dynamic bands that Renfrewshire has to offer.
Expect big hooks and stellar songwriting during their first ever trip to Crosslee.
And Warren Capaldi will be at The Keg for a free event at 9.30pm.
Louisa Mahon, head of marketing, communications and events at Renfrewshire Council, hailed the turn-out.
She said: “It’s been absolutely brilliant to welcome back musiclovers to enjoy their favourite acts and musicians at The Spree once again.
“The event was much-missed last year and festival-goers have turned out in their numbers to be part of the bumper ten-day programme.
“This excitement shows just how much The Spree has grown to become a popular fixture in Scotland’s music festival calendar, attracting great UK and international artists and bringing visitors from across the country to Paisley.
“We’re looking forward to a fantastic closing night party at The Spree, with The Rezillos tonight before Paisley Halloween Festival presents Out of this World with a spectacular trail of installations and light displays for visitors to enjoy around the town centre from Thursday, October 28 to Monday, November 1.”
