Stacey wants to prove she’s top of the scots

Makeup artist up for national awards

- BY STEPHEN HOUSTON

The super skills of a young makeup artist has put her in the running for two national awards.

The expertise of Stacey McKillop were first recognised in Renfrewshire two years ago when she landed the Best Makeup Artist at the area’s business awards.

Now the 22-year-old is vying for two Scottish titles.

Stacey said: “The thing that drives me forward is having people trust me and watching them leave with confidence for their special occasion.”

She lives in Erskine and has a base within KN Beauty in Paisley’s Causeyside Street.

Her brushes are in high demand among brides and for what she says is “evening glam”.

But Stacey also revealed: “I did a client’s makeup once for a first date to the cinema.

“Given that it was going to be dark inside, I don’t know how she got on.”

The former Park Mains High pupil is a finalist for Makeup Specialist of the Year at the Scottish Hair & Beauty Awards 2021.

The awards night will take place on December 19 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow.

In a great double, she is also a finalist for Freelance Wedding Hair & Makeup Specialist of the Year at the Scottish Wedding Awards 2022.

She’s find out her fate on February 23 at the Marriott Hotel, in Glasgow.

Stacey said she thrives on the close relationship she develops with her customers.

She said: “I love weddings as you really connect with a bride and her bridal party.

“It’s such an emotional moment watching someone leave to get married knowing they picked you to be part of their day.

“It’s such a privilege to be there from the start of the morning with stress, tears and laughter then leaving to get married.”

An evening course five years ago inspired her to go further and she graduated from a three-year Makeup Artistry course at West College Scotland.

Since then, she has worked on photoshoots, theatre productions and volunteered as the head makeup artist at the Strictly Come Prancing ball for St Vincent’s Hospice. And she has also used makeup to make folk look bad ... as a special effects artist for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
