Inspectors praise staff at ‘adequate’ care home
Report hails‘well informed’workers at Adams House
A care home has been graded as “adequate” by inspectors who scrutinised how well it was supporting residents during the pandemic.
Adams House, in Elderslie, was visited by the Care Inspectorate last month and a report on the findings has just been released.
The watchdog observed warm interactions between staff and residents and said it had received positive comments about the service from community health professionals.
Inspectors praised the detail in patients’ personal plans, which included information about hobbies and activities that were important to them and said the dining experience was calm, with people being encouraged to chat and enjoy their meals.
Infection control practices were looked at closely during the checkup and the report said the home was cleaned to a good standard.
The home in Auchenlodment Road is run by Crossreach and cares for up to 30 residents with dementia.
The report stated: “We saw respectful and warm interactions between people and staff.
“Staff knew individual people well and communicated with them in a pace and manner that was relaxed and reassuring.
“The service has regular contact and visits from community health care professionals.
“Comments from them about the service were positive and they felt the staff communicated well and were well informed of people’s health and well-being.
“We observed a lunch being served and noted that people were encouraged to sanitize their hands before eating their meal.
“The dining experience was calm and relaxed and people were given assistance when they required it. People were seen to engage in conversation and enjoy their meal.
“The home was clean and fresh, lounges and dining areas were uncluttered and seating, including cushions, and occasional tables were clean and stain-free.
“People’s bedrooms were cleaned to a good standard and attention to detail had been made to ensure mattresses, pillows and duvets were stain-free.”
The Care Inspectorate did, however, highlight concerns about the risk of cross-contamination with clean and dirty linen in the “small” laundry room.
Inspectors also found the hairdresser’s room to be “untidy” and a serious fire hazard was unearthed in the smoke room.
Action was, however, taken immediately to address these issues, according to the report.
