‘Positive’ changes to school buses in Dargavel
Scottish Conservative and Unionist council candidate James MacLaren has welcomed “positive changes” regarding school bus provision in Dargavel.
James had contacted Renfrewshire Council after being concerned pupils in Dargavel who were heading to Park Mains High School were having to travel a mile to Kingston Road just to get picked up.
He said that this situation pupils were being faced with was “ridiculous” and completely unacceptable given the continued growth of Dargavel.
The council candidate had raised concerns with officials that even those with bus passes weren’t being allowed on, due to a lack of spaces available on the bues.
Council officials have now rectified the issue and confirmed there will be a pick up within Dargavel and that has been occurring since Monday March 21.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate James MacLaren said: “With Bishopton ever expanding, it is absolutely vital that pupils can easily access pick-up points for buses to the local schools.
“It was completely unacceptable and frankly ridiculous that they were being asked to travel a mile over to Kingston Road simply to get the right bus, rather than being picked-up more locally.
“I’m glad officials have seen sense and have now ensured that anyone in Dargarvel is now getting picked up there.
“As we see more and more houses being built in Dargavel, that must come in tandem with guaranteed provisions, such as local buses being readily available.
“I will be closely monitoring this to ensure that this continues to be the case and pupils are not having to make extra journeys just to get transported to school.”
