Expert nurses win a gong at Brit Awards

-

A dedicated team of nurses helping patients across Renfrewshire have won a national award at a glittering ceremony in London.

The five-strong Clyde IBD team - which deals with people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde staff, who also operate in Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire, scooped the Gastrointestinal/IBD Nurse of the Year prize at the British Journal of Nursing Awards in London on March 25.

The award was accepted on behalf of the team by Fiona McCluskey.

She said: “I was absolutely thrilled to pick up the award for the team.

“Our nursing team has really stepped up to develop and provide services for patients despite huge challenges.

“These are significant innovations in practice, including selfmanagement and relapse pathways, patientcentred telemedicine services, all built and delivered with an ethos of patient-initiated review.

“In particular, our work on self-management has been published and recognised nationally.

“This award means a huge amount, considering that in 2021 we were runners up in the RCN National Awards in October 2021 for advanced nursing practice.

“We also received the William Cullen Prize back in 2018 for service innovation, it is terrific to keep momentum going!

“We want to use this as an example of how nursing innovation, hard work and dedication can lead to significant improvements.“

The team’s accolade was also recognised by health board chiefs. Melanie McColgan, NHSGGC’s Clyde director said:“This is a welldeserved award and I hope they enjoy it.”
